Visitor Experience Award – Louisiana Byways Collection
The Louisiana Office of Tourism’s Byways Team transformed the way visitors experience the state’s 19 scenic trails and byways. Through a user-friendly website, immersive video content, printed maps, and curated trip ideas, the program invites travelers to embark on unforgettable road trips across one of the most culturally diverse regions in the country.
“Our goal was to make it easier and more exciting for people to explore Louisiana,” said Lauren Holmes, Louisiana’s Byway Manager. “From our winding bayous to historic towns and ancient mounds, we’ve made it simple for visitors to discover the incredible stories, landscapes, and communities along every byway.”
The Louisiana Byways website is a standout feature of the initiative, offering both map and list views of the routes, along with captivating videos, cultural highlights, and planning tools, all optimized for desktop and mobile. The campaign has seen strong success, with website engagement up by over 20% year over year, reflecting growing interest in scenic travel and heritage experiences.

Case Studies Available (2020-2025)
The National Scenic Byway Association (NSBA) publishes case studies of its award winners to share best practices within the scenic byways community. These annual awards recognize excellence in categories such as byway enhancement, communications, interpretation, leveraging resources, and visitor experience. By providing detailed examples of successful projects, the association helps other byways nationwide to improve their programs.

2026 Awards
Next year, we encourage you to nominate a byway for one of our 8 National Awards for 2026. The application is typically due in February and the winners are announced in April. Applicants must be NSBA members.
