A Byway for Your Senses

Do you enjoy crystal-clear alpine lakes created by glaciers and breathing in crisp mountain air as you drive through an emerald forest? Do you enjoy sweeping vistas? If so, Wyoming offers Snowy Range Scenic Byway which is a byway for your senses as well as a premier byway for you to experience.

Traveling Through Medicine Bow National Forest

Snowy Range Scenic Byway travels 29 miles showcasing the beauty of the Rocky Mountains in Wyoming as it travels on Highway 130 through the Medicine Bow National Forest in the southeastern section of the state. Just 80 miles west of Cheyenne, the byway starts near Centennial, WY and travels westward through the forest with high altitude drives including traversing Snowy Range Pass, the second highest Wyoming mountain pass at 10,847 ft above sea level.

Recreational Opportunities Abound

Enjoy views of granite peaks and alpine lakes, which are popular for trout fishing. The typography of the land lends itself to a plethora of recreational opportunities. Hiking trails that accommodate all levels of abilities will lead hikers to breath-taking overlooks. Some panoramic views extend all the way to the state of nearby Colorado.  Horseback riding and mountain biking are a couple of things you can enjoy while traveling Snowy Range Scenic Byway. Be sure to have your camera ready as you can also spot wildlife in their natural habitat along this drive!

Enjoy Snowy Range Scenic Byway in Different Times of the Year

In the spring and early summer months, wildflowers abound. Bring your telescope or just use your eyes to enjoy the wide-open views that offer incredible stargazing opportunities in Wyoming’s dark skies.

Snowy Range Scenic Byway can also be enjoyed in the colder months. Come for the cross-country skiing and snowshoeing or take off on a snowmobile as you enjoy 300 miles of trails and snowy fields. Remember those alpine lakes? In the winter months they ice over and are great for ice-fishing and ice-skating.

Drive time and Don’t Miss the Hot Springs!

Allow 45 minutes driving time in good weather conditions. Allow more time to enjoy the views and all the byway has to offer. Check weather conditions and obtain any required permits. Continue on to Saratoga, WY and enjoy their hot springs resort, restaurants, and brewery.
