Not far from Seattle, Washington, there’s a beautiful single island, where on a drive on the Whidbey Scenic Isle Way Byway, the rush of life subsides, and stress vanishes.
As you cross Deception Bridge and catch your breath from one of the region’s most spectacular driving moments, you’ll go on “island time.” It’s a 54-mile island route from end to end.
Exploring small island towns, pop into art studios and galleries, nestled within small boutiques, coffee shops, wineries, and microbreweries. You can walk on the waterfront and watch whales right from the shore.
Be sure to visit Meerkerk Rhododendron Gardens, a Pacific Northwest style woodland garden enveloped by a forest preserve. Mukilteo and Deception Pass offer views of Puget Sound with the Olympic Mountains and the Cascades in a far-off panorama.
Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve which includes Fort Casey Historical State Park and Fort Ebey State Park, encompasses hundreds of acres of windswept prairie, with bluff views to knock your socks off.
