Apache Trail Historic Road

Overview

Head north/northwest out of Apache Junction on State Route 88. Stop at Goldfield Ghost town, a reconstructed 1890’s gold-mining town, for gold mine tours, Old West gunfights, and a history museum. Then hike the trails at Lost Dutchman State park or enjoy the campground there. Save time for the Tonto National Forest and the Tonto National Monument further north to see the cliff dwellings of the Salado communities dating from 1250 to-1450 and the museum there.
