Overview
The Appalachian Medley byway engages the senses and recalls the past through its rich history of local music, which is illustrated by the rhythm and flow of the beautiful hills along the byway—a melody of the greatest proportions. The route is closely bordered by the Pisgah National Forest, which covers 12 counties and more than 500,000 acres in North Carolina. It is also the home to the first school of forestry in the United States which is now preserved at the Cradle of Forestry historic site. As you work your way through the forests and the many coves, eventually the landscape opens to a picturesque valley.
