Big Bone Lick Scenic Byway

Overview

At the northernmost section of Kentucky, across from Cincinnati, OH, is the Big Bone Lick Scenic Byway in Boone County. Start at Beaverlick on KY 338 at the junction with US 42. Take time to stop at Big Bone Lick State Park and learn about the herds of huge mammals that once roamed this area and enjoyed the salt licks. Recreational activities of camping, picnicking, hiking, birding, orienteering, miniature golf, tennis, and playgrounds abound. Also allow time to see the bison herd viewable every day of the year. Be sure to stop in the gift shop and find a souvenir to remember your experience. Travel on to KY 18 and the junction of Woolper Road at Commissary Corner, just south of Burlington. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking views of the Ohio River.
