Collegiate Peaks Byway

Overview

This scenic byway parallels the Continental Divide at the foot of the Sawatch Range, which has the highest concentration of 14,000'+ peaks in the country. The greater part of the road follows the Arkansas River, which is the most commercially rafted river in the nation, a world-class kayaking destination, and one of the state’s premier trout fishing.Within this byway, you will also find the classic mining towns of Vicksburg, Winfield and St. Elmo, as well as the historically rich and vibrant communities of PonchaSprings and BuenaVista. Meanwhile, the town of Salida boasts the largest historic district in Colorado.
