Byway Overview
Winding along the Pacific shoreline from the fishing village of Westport to South Bend, the self-proclaimed “Oyster Capital of the World," this byway is named in honor of the tiny red berry, which once grew wild in the region. Visit the Cranberry Museum, the home of the Pacific Coast Cranberry Research Foundation, in Long Beach WA. Learn both the history of this garnet colored berry as well as key phases of the industry from bog preparation and planting to marketing cranberry products. You won’t want to miss the delicious cranberry ice cream served in the museum gift shop.

Westport

Tokeland
Tokeland sits on the North rim of Willapa Bay and was named after an Indian chief from the 19th century, Chief Toke. Tokeland is a flourishing arts community with a marina and plenty of beach activities. Enjoy surfing, fishing, clamming, crabbing, and bird watching. Don’t forget to visit the coastal casino!

Northwest Carriage Museum
Visit one of the finest horse-drawn transportation museums in the entire country. The museum features an excellent collection of 19th Century horse-drawn vehicles -- elegant carriages, common day buggies, work wagons, coaches, and sleighs, along with period artifacts and clothing. In addition, the museum displays a one-room schoolhouse and a wheelwright/blacksmith shop and a gift shop.

South Bend
The city of South Bend is the gateway to Willapa Bay. Willapa Bay, one of the most pristine estuaries in the nation, provides habitat for bald eagles, hawks, egrets, coyotes, deer and Roosevelt elk.
Launch your canoe or kayak and from the new recreational dock or use the boat launch for larger boats at the south end of town to cruise the Willapa River system and do some fishing, crabbing.

While traveling coastal Hwy-101, visit Pacific County Historical Society's Museum and Visitor Center, where maps and brochures are available and volunteers are happy to assist with any questions. This museum hosts an abundance of artifacts related to Pacific County and the Pacific Northwest’s rich history. Open 7 days a week, 11am-4pm FREE admission
