From the Desert to Tall Pines Scenic Road

Overview

This byway follows State Route 260, Forest Road 512, State Route 288, and State Route 188 from Globe to Payson and through the Tonto National Forest. This is sometimes called the Young Highway as it passes through that community. Just as the name “From the Desert to Tall Pines Scenic Road” states, travelers will have opportunities to enjoy the Sonoran Desert with its saguaros and prickly pear cacti, then climb to Mc Fadden Peak, descend into Young before climbing again to enjoy the Tonto National Forest and the Mogollon Rim from its multiple pullouts and into Payson. Stop at the Tonto Natural Bridge State Park and see what is believed to be the largest natural travertine bridge in the world.
