Overview
With its charming bookend towns of Winter Garden and Mount Dora at either end, the Green Mountain Scenic Byway offers visitors fun small-town experiences along with great recreational opportunities. The rolling hills and winding roadway draws cyclists from around the world for competition, training, and touring. The byway is one of the most popular cycling routes in Florida and is the site of several internationally recognized triathlons each year. In addition to cyclists, the Green Mountain Scenic Byway is a favorite of motorcyclists, antique car clubs, and Sunday drivers. Some of the most popular stops are Mount Dora, with its numerous recreational opportunities, known for festivals, food and shopping and the West Orange Trail, one of the most popular multiuse trails in Central Florida, running right down the center of the byway through Winter Garden. Watch for cyclists gliding through downtown. Another highlight is the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive, which opened in 2015, and draws photographers and wildlife lovers in droves to experience real Florida creatures in the wild.
