Gulf Coast Scenic Byway

Overview

The Gulf Coast Scenic Byway is the 18 mile stretch of roadway that runs through the cities of Pass Christian, Long Beach and Gulfport. There are sections of this byway that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Multiple Resource Districts. Long Beach, Pass Christian and Gulfport are all home to historic downtown districts through which the byway either runs or borders to the south. There are numerous historic structures located in these downtowns, as well as along the beachfront, although many were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The Gulf Coast Scenic Byway is a primary access road for each of these three downtowns, connecting the cities’ history and culture.
