Overview
Prior to the Civil War, African American Freedom Seekers fled north to freedom through a series of people and locations that became known as the “Underground Railroad.” Delaware was the last slave state and was a critical piece to freedom. Harriet Tubman and others led more than 3,000 Freedom Seekers through Delaware. This route takes the traveler generally on a south to north orientation to give opportunities for the Underground Railroad historical experience as history unfolds in these locations.
