Ka`u – The Slopes of Mauna Loa Scenic Byway


This byway travels along Highway 11 around the base of Maunaloa on the island of Hawaii, connecting Historic Kona Town to the Kahuku section of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and to the park’s main entrance. The byway traveler will see stretches of unspoiled, natural scenery and spectacular views from Honuapo Overlook. Save time for sweeping vistas of lava fields and the napping sea turtles at Punaluu Black Sand Beach. Explore the historic cave system of Lula Kai Caverns. This byway is also known as the Hawaii Belt Road.
