Overview

Start in Westminster with a stop at the Union Mills Homestead and Grist Mill, home of the Shriver family for 6 generations and a Maryland Civil War Trails Site. Traveling from Westminster to Appleton, the byway is mostly on single-lane country roads. The countryside is dotted by farms offering seasonal hayrides, corn mazes, and fresh fruits and vegetables. Learn more about the area’s agricultural history at the Carroll County Farm Museum. Stop at the Pretty Boy Reservoir for fishing and hiking and at Fair Hills Natural Resources Management Area for trout fishing, hiking, equestrian trails, and turf-course horse racing on Memorial Weekend.
