Meriwether-Pike Scenic Byway

Overview

This byway honors the legacy of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt who often came to the area in the 1920s-1940s in hopes the area’s restorative warms springs would improve his polio-stricken legs. He built a house in Warm Springs, the Little White House, which is now a state historic site. Visitors to the area will also enjoy stops at the Red Oak Covered Bridge, the Oakland Park Baptist Church, and Jones Mill, where only a grist mill and mill pond remain of the once thriving community. If traveling in May and October, plan time for the Cotton Pickin’ Fair and Great Gay Marketplace.
