Nanticoke Heritage Byway

Overview

This route alternates between farmlands, wooded areas, and small towns rich in history. Seaford, Bethel and Laurel are on water routes that made them important centers of trade and shipbuilding from the Colonial Period through the 19th century. The introduction of railroads in 1856, increased the area’s market of oysters, fruit, and baskets. Take time to visit the museums, rail stations, historic mansions and plantations, and enjoy the many seafood eateries. Hiking, bicycling, and boating are just some of the recreational opportunities along the byway.
