Overview
This byway travels rural roads and connects the historic main streets in Emmitsburg, Westminster, and Mount Airy that are all eager to share their heritage with the traveler. Stop at the Roddy Road Covered Bridge near Thurmont and the National Shrine of St. Elizbeth Ann Seton and the National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady Lourdes in Emmitsburg. Picnicking and fishing opportunities await in Catoctin Mountain National Park. The Audrey Carroll Audubon Sanctuary near Mount Airy has open and wooded walking trails, streams, and pond. Enjoy the shopping, dining, and lodging in these small towns and plan for the Maryland Wine Festival held in September with over 50 wineries at the Carroll County Farm Museum.
