Overview

Touted as the most diverse stretch of road in Idaho, this byway offers sky piercing peaks to craters. View the vast ocean of lava flows at Crater of the Moon National Monument and Preserve. Begin this byway at the intersection of Highway 75 and 20 and travel to Carey. Take Highway 93 to Arco, then the highway turns northwest along the Lost River Mountains to Challis. Visit the Land of the Yankee Fork State Park and Interpretive Center in the Salmon-Challis National Forest. Along the way fish for trout, explore a ghost town, or view the wildlife.
