Sawtooth Scenic Byway

Overview

This byway is named for the rugged peaks of the Sawtooth Mountain Range and the Boulder Mountains. Visit the Shoshone Ice Caves, Silver Creek Preserve, Magic Preserve, Redfish Lake and take advantage of the varied recreational opportunities. Wildlife viewing includes deer, elk, and pronghorn sheep. This scenery and wildlife led Ernest Hemingway to have a great affection for central Idaho. His final home was along the Big Wood River. Stop at the Community Library in Ketchum to see the collection of photographs, books, correspondence, and memorabilia related to Hemingway. The night sky puts on a breathtaking show, especially at the Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve. Begin this byway at Shoshone and take Highway 75 north to Stanley.
