This Forest Service Byway travels through the Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois, between the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. It is part of the Ohio River Scenic Route. The forest is known for the Garden of the Gods and Rim Rock Recreational Trail. There is a system of 403 miles of equestrian/hiking trails with green moss-covered rock walls and paths that wind through canyons under the forest canopy. If you are into climbing, stop at Jackson Falls for a climb of 60 feet of sandstone cliffs.
