Overview
The High Road to Taos Byway will immerse the traveler to Old Spain history through its architecture, topography, history, religion, and people. In Chimayo, visit the Santuario de Chimayo and the El Posito, a hole in the floor of a chapel filled with healing earth. Then follow NM 76 as it travels through badlands, dotted with scrubby pinon and juniper. The Jemez Mountains appear enormous on the horizon. Continue to Talpa and Ranchos de Taos where a bronze Saint Francis will greet you. Stop at the San Francisco de Asis Church for a view of its massive adobe and straw walls.
