Overview
Once a network of centuries-old Native American Trails, this route has also been known as Sauk Trail, Chicago Road, and Michigan Avenue. It was one of the most important migration routes for settlers into the Michigan territory. The road was paved in 1920 and named an official highway in 1926. The route connects man, animals, commerce, culture, and nature as it travels from downtown Detroit to New Buffalo.
