Veterans Evergreen Memorial Drive

Overview

For decades this section of Highway 23 has been known as the scenic route to Duluth. Start near Banning State Park with its camping, hiking, river fishing, and canoeing. Are you adventurous? Kayak the Kettle River in the park with its infamous “Hell’s Gate” rapids. Many other creeks and small rivers criss-cross the byway and offer excellent trout fishing, especially the Nemadji and South Fork Rivers near the northern part of the route. Be sure to stop at the Veteran’s Memorial Overlook for a magnificent view of the St. Louis River Valley.
