West Michigan Pike HIstoric Byway – US 31

Start at Michigan City and travel north along the eastern coast of Lake Michigan, a haven for beaches like no other. Travel through the cities of Holland, Norton Shores, and Muskegon to US Highway 10. This historic route was developed in 1911 as a pioneering tourist road connecting communities with sand beaches as vacationers sought relaxation and adventure. Enjoy the paddle wheelers at Holland and the tulip display in May. Stop at Oval Beach with its picture-perfect beach or at the Silver Lakes Sand Dunes for hiking and camping. Save time for the Maker’s Trail in St. Joseph and enjoy beer, wine, and other spirits. Book at charter fishing tour in Grand Haven or hop on a trolley to see the city. South Haven offers beaches as well as museums, nature trails, and a photo op on the pier at sunset.
