Jan wrote the successful National Scenic Byway designation application in 2020 for the Iowa byway route.  She helped to organize the Lincoln Highway National Byway Alliance, an organization with representatives from 13 states the route travels through. The mission of the Alliance is to promote the national Lincoln Highway route. Jan has a background in historic preservation, having served on the City of Nevada’s Historic Preservation Commission and as a coordinator of the local historical society. She has BS and MPA degrees from Iowa State University. She serves as the secretary for the Iowa Lincoln Highway Association and is a member of the Jefferson Highway Association. She was a 30-year member of the local American Business Women’s Association, serving as every officer in her local chapter, and three times named “Woman of the Year.” She remains active in the “Women Helping Others” nonprofit which her local disbanded ABWA chapter organized. Since retiring, she now spends time with NSBF work, volunteers on the Design Committee for Main Street Nevada (Iowa), and enjoys time with her family.
