National Byway Award Winner 
Communications Award – Sequatchie Valley National Scenic Byway
Led by Janis Kyser and her team, the campaign embraced a multi-platform strategy across Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok to showcase the natural beauty, small-town charm, and unique attractions of the byway. Through high-quality photography, seasonal reels, short-form videos, and user-generated content, the campaign built a vibrant online presence that drove traffic to the byway’s website and boosted local tourism.
“We wanted to create content that truly reflects the heart of the valley,” said Kyser. “Every post is rooted in the people, places, and experiences that make this region special.”
The team visited the valley throughout the year, capturing fresh seasonal visuals and stories. They shared two-to-three posts or reels per week, highlighting everything from mountain vistas and local artisans to historic towns and outdoor adventures. Themed series like “Hidden Gems” and “Seasonal Snapshots” helped spotlight lesser-known businesses and scenic moments that define the region’s charm.
The campaign also introduced curated itineraries, guiding visitors on weekend getaways and themed trips, from outdoor excursions and cultural stops to local dining favorites. By weaving authentic storytelling with practical trip-planning tools, the campaign inspired travel while simplifying the experience for potential visitors.

Case Studies Available (2020-2025)
The National Scenic Byway Association (NSBA) publishes case studies of its award winners to share best practices within the scenic byways community. These annual awards recognize excellence in categories such as byway enhancement, communications, interpretation, leveraging resources, and visitor experience. By providing detailed examples of successful projects, the association helps other byways nationwide to improve their programs.

2026 Awards
Next year, we encourage you to nominate a byway for one of our 8 National Awards for 2026. The application is typically due in February and the winners are announced in April. Applicants must be NSBA members.
